A Revolution at Hand? Max Cali tells all.

The supposed “Hero” of UNW gives us his thoughts, all through the lens of interviewer Mark Mufti.

UNW INSIGHT | JAN. 22ND

I feel like it is incredibly important to mention first that upon entering the Interview room, Max Cali would confront me to ask me what I was doing seeking him out after his loss to Eiji KAZUMA for his European Championship. I told him I was doing my job as an interviewer on all things UNW, and he told me he would have me “jumped by my car after the show like Cosmo’s uncle” if I ever did it again. That being said, the interview would then get started and would continue with no other major complications.

During the interview, Max seemed cool and controlled, much less candid than he was when he appeared on Cultaholic prior to his match against Drake Armstrong. I was prepared for a very emotionally charged interview, just as that one was, but I can only assume he got all of his anger out on me in the incident I previously wrote about. I didn’t know where to begin, honestly, so I started with something a little broader.

Q: Where did the idea for the Revolution come from? What is the goal behind it?

After a bit of pondering, this is what Cali had to say.

A: The idea of the Revolution is the idea that anyone on Fury, and I do mean anyone, can make a difference and make change. Everything I’ve ever had in UNW came because I scratched, clawed, and worked for it. You don’t get to do what I’ve done without having the necessary skills and talents to do it, do you? The idea is to give those who I know want to and can do what I’ve done and give them the platform to do so. I’ve noticed that the only way you truly make change here in UNW is by taking the status quo by the head and giving it a very, very serious concussion… So that’s what I’m going to be doing. Take Fury and transform it into a better place for all, through the fire.

After that, there was only one appropriate follow-up question.

Q: What does this transformed Fury look like, and what is the “how” in all this?

A: For both of those, I cannot give you definitive answers. What the brand I’m on will look like once I’ve brung it into a new era by sheer force of will is something that even I will have to see with time. Can’t predict the future with complete accuracy, can you? What there will be, if my true vision is completed, is opportunities for those who deserve it. The “how” in all of this is something I can’t tell you… although, I feel like people can read between the lines of what I say and come to their own conclusions.

At this point, it was clear Max was going to be dodging around giving a direct answer. I had to dig deeper. From here, the conversation would flow a little faster and more freely, so the amount of break-time there will be between questions is going to decrease.

Q: How do the men you’ve recruited so far fit the bill of “The Revolution”?

A: Well, firstly, Picturesque are my most trusted advisors. They showed me the way that’s led me here, so of course I’m going to bring them forth into this new era. Their in-ring success is immaterial to me, in the grand scheme, despite anything else I’ve said. Now for Patrick, Mr. O’Collins is a man who I see myself in alot. A former European Champion, and a man passed up on for others when they felt his time was up. It most certainly isn’t, as we’ve seen. He was absolutely perfect for this endeavor… I sent him an email awhile back, just in case he ever felt like supporting those similarly passed up on. He’s currently embroiled in a feud with TFK, and I’m content to let him do as he wishes. The more success in the Revolution, the better. I feel comfortable letting him lead his own path here because he is a man who knows where his allegiance lies. Now… I’d assume you have a question or two about Lad Morales on the docket.

Q: I do… so, why did you think Lad Morales was so pivotal to the Revolution that you would fight him to make him be a part of the group? What is so special about Lad Morales?

A: Firstly… What isn’t special about Lad Morales? That is a kid who can do everything you need a wrestler to do. A true student of the game. I needed him in the Revolution because I’m trying to show him that this way, the Revolution’s way, is the way you have to use to succeed in UNW. I know the type of man Lad Morales is – the moral type, moral to a fault. He would have languished and failed in UNW just like so many others behind us, just like so many talents that I’ve seen. Either that, or he would’ve been sent down to Genesis Pro… and I hear what happens down there is pretty weird. The point is, he would’ve been lost in the shuffle if I didn’t show him that what he was doing is the wrong way to be going about things. I had to do what I did. Is that understandable? For the good of Lad Morales and the good of Fury, I had to. He can say what he’d like to say… there wouldn’t be Lad Morales main eventing a Fury without me showing him the way. The only thing left is to really convince him of the life me and my men live. I am sure, with time and practical applications, he will come around. If he doesn’t, I’ve already beaten him once.

Q: To follow up on one of the things you said.. sure, Lad Morales may not be in the position to main event a Fury without you, but he also called this match in himself… stepping over you. How did that feel?

A: Well, I do have to admit it was nice to see him really taking charge there. More than he would’ve if he was still around his “friends” like Cosmo and those people. All in all, while I wasn’t pleased he stepped over my authority, if this is what he wants I’ll have to respect it. As I told him in the ring last week, it’ll be his fault if we don’t win tomorrow night. That’s just how it shakes out, Mark.

That was all I had to say for the Lad Morales situation, so I moved onto something he’s been alluding to for a bit now. Hopefully, to get a little clarity.

Q: You’ve been saying for months now at this point that “things that cost millions of dollars take time”… what, or who, are you referring to, exactly?

A: Stanley Elric.

Having no idea who that is, I decided it wasn’t worth asking further.

Q: That being said.. Is there anybody new on Fury that he thinks would be a great fit for The Revolution? Anyone else who fits your vision?

A: I’d consider membership of the Revolution to be more open-ended than that. Sure, I will have my men & women around me who will be fighting on the front lines, but whoever identifies with what we stand for is free to stand with us. We will not be silent, and we will not be hard to find. It can even be as simple as wearing a little bit more green while you’re on tour or while you’re on the clock. If you feel like you are being kept down, like you don’t belong in the current state UNW is in… stand with us. We, or at least I, won’t do anything to stop you. However, the men who truly stand beside me are my most trusted confidants, and those people aren’t just any random person.

At this point, it became clear to me that any kind of direct answer was going to be too hard to obtain, so I opted to close out the interview. I had hit everything I needed to ask but one thing, anyhow.

Q: One last question before we wrap here, is there anything else you want to say to British Invasion? Anything at all?

A: Do I have anything to say to the British Invasion… well, I’ve already told them not to underestimate us several times, so at this point it’ll be at their own discretion if they treat us like a threat or if they don’t. I would say that for them, and for the brand as a whole, the time to be treating us as the side show is coming very quickly to a close. It will be very interesting to see who thinks that we are just like any other “evil” group in this company and who will treat us like what we are, and even more interesting to see how their career trajectories falter and fail afterwards. British Invasion fall into the former category. They think we are beneath them.. and perhaps, in their minds, they have a right to think that. But, I don’t believe in thought – I believe in action, and mine and Lads actions tomorrow night will show that we are anything but ordinary. That is a promise I intend on keeping.

After that, he shook my hand and walked out. I still don’t know what to make of the man.
